As the series of 2024, Contract Saga: Shin revolves around Contract Cards and included the new card type, Contract GranWalker Nexus. On top of the original Contract Spirit and Contract Ultimate, the third type of contract card, Contract GranWalker Nexus, was introduced and brought about variation to the meta. At the same time, having overcome the weakness of the need to draw the GranWalker nexus, battlers can now enjoy the gimmick GranWalker Nexus even more.

On the other hand, Contract Spirit and Contract Ultimate decks were already strong and had cards that counters Contract GranWalker which resulted in Contract GranWalker decks being difficult to work their best. This is something that we must reflect upon Contract Saga: Shin. Even though we have considered to ban or limiting oppressive cards to construct a meta with only Contract GranWalker decks, we hope for Contract Spirit and Contract Ultimate decks to still be viable and hence, we decided to observe the meta and ban or limit from there.

Also, regarding the ban and limited list announced on 1st May, as we have mentioned, it is gradually turning into a Gekiha deck vs Anti-Gekiha deck meta. The Gekiha deck with its own family is set to use designated cards as a core to build the deck around. However, as it is an all-colored deck, and with the wide range of resource base of Battle Spirits topped with the enthusiasm of battlers, the deck’s adaptability has far exceeded our original expectations.

We understand the different views coming from battlers towards the latest banned and limited list. But our intention is not to let designated decks be unable to survive in the current meta. We will continue to monitor each deck’s appearance and win rate to adjust the banned and limited list.

New series for 2025, Contract SagaL Kan, activated!

Not only is Contract Saga: Kan the series to end off Contract Saga which began from Year 2022, it is also the last series before implementing the Battle Spirits Shin Kaihou project which will introduce Standard and Eternal formats. We hope that this series will be the cumulation of Battle Spirits thus far. Apart from Contract GranWalker, we also included the retro elements. Since Contract Saga: Kan is a milestone, no new gimmicks will be introduced. However, it will continue to revolve around Contract GranWalker Nexus. Apart from Olym and Egyt, Primordial and Celtica will also have new Contract GranWalkers appearing. Each GranWalker will have unique effects, and more playstyles can be explored. We look forward to battlers experiencing Contract Saga: Kan.

AX Rare will replace NX Rare as the highest rarity in Contract Saga: Kan. AX Rare also means Alternative X Rare, which allows popular characters to return in a new form. Contract Saga: Kan The Return and Resurrection that is set to go on sale from 17th May features [The Dual Blade Wielder, Darkness Griffon], [The Darkling Emperor, Siegfried] and [The Moonlight God King, Arte-Mistral Bit] which can be key cards to various decks, do make sure to get them! Also, AX rare will also follow the alternate secret design from Contract Saga: Shin which got good reviews. Not only are the illustrations are being changed, the colors added also made it feel more premium. Please look forward to it.

Speaking of Battle Spirit’s history, we have to mention the different classic gimmicks. To relieve those moments, we brought back Imajin Brave, Seal and Rush effects. The following series will also release the nostalgic gimmicks.

Contract Saga: Kan will also include anime elements. It includes a brand-new magic card with designs of characters from previous anime. Hot-stamped secret version can be obtained from the [All Star Signed Card Campaign]! We invited the characters’ seiyuu to sign and leave a message. In the first series, [The return and Resurrection], character designs for the new magic card, Kizuna Field, from Battle Spirits Shounen Toppa Bashin, Battle Spirits Sword Eyes and Battle Spirits Double Drive！We will continue to introduce Kizuna cards!

「Contract Saga: Kan Vol.1 Recurrence and Resurrection」 on sale from 17th May!

The Twilight Contractor, Nyx with the family of Primordial arrives. This is the anticipated control deck which increases Lv cost. The Contract Field of Nyx increases opposing Lv cost by 1 when its core is reduced. Its Contract Skill can reset the cores from an opposing Spirit/Ultimate/Nexus to 1. This can remove 1 card from the board. Together with the strong removal and game ending ability of its Grand Emperor, The Goddess of Stifle, Eris and AX Rare, The Darkling Emperor, Siegfried, the game can end after the clearing of board.

Apart from that, Celtica GranWalker, [The Martial Arts Contractor, Lugh], can be braved with 2 braves, giving it 2 “when Braved” effects, enabling new tactics. Please do try it out.

Also, Olym Granwalker, Artemis will turn into the long awaited Contracted GranWalker Nexus, [The Moonlight Contractor, Artemis]. This deck can utilize its Contract Skill to let itself and your Machine Beast spirits gain additional white symbol. Launch continuous attacks using your refreshing effects to dimmish your opponent’s life. Of course, it can be further enhanced with GranWalker Artemis deck to construct an even more powerful deck.

In the All Star Signed Card Campaign of Recurrence and Resurrection, there will be 6 different designs of Kizuna Field using characters from Battle Spirits Shounen Bashin Toppa, Battle Spirits Sword Eyes and Battle Spirits Double Drive. Please collect your favourite character. There will also be a limited secret design, with the seiyuu’s hot stamped signature. Don’t miss it!

There is also a SECRET version that includes the stamped signatures of the anime voice actors, so we hope you will get one.

The battle for this year’s Battle Spirits First in Asia, Battle Spirits Championship 25-26, officially begins! This year’s scale of the championship will be bigger than last year. Previously, we used Cycle 1 Qualifier and Cycle 2 Qualifier. This year, we added a new 3on3 Qualifiers into the mix to allow more battlers to get qualified in their regions and allowing more battlers to enjoy the competitive stage of Battle Spirits.

Not only that, in the 3on3 Qualifiers, you can also join up with your past opponents to claim the throne of First in Asia together. At the same time, you can experience the joy of building decks together for 3on3 tournaments. Please do your best in the enhanced Battle Spirits Championships 25-26 and aim for the Asia Champion!

During the Bandai Card Games Fest 24-25 in Japan Final, we have announced the details of Battle Spirits Shin Kaihou Project. This will bring about a huge change in battle Spirits. We are sure that everyone was surprised. Over here, please allow me to explain the main points of the renewal project.

Starting from April 2026, Battle Spirits will be split into two modes, Standard and Eternal. Eternal is the format where all cards can be used, following the banned and limited list while Standard is the format is, apart from banned and limited list, only cards released from April 2026 can be used. The main aim to implement these 2 modes is to let Battle Spirits with 20th Anniversary incoming be well liked by more players.

In Standard, apart from limiting usable cards, we will also be simplifying the effect texts of cards and look into basic rules again. Not only for the current players, we are also allowing players that left or have not played battle spirits before, get into the game more easily.
While in Eternal, the cumulated card pool of Battle spirits can allow battlers to experience the same fun they have at the moment. Of course, cards released from April 2026 can still be used in Eternal.
Also, there will be both Eternal and Standard format during the championship of 2026. Through this modal of championship, things will get more interesting. Please look forward to it.

The other interesting point of Battle Spirits Shin Kaihou Project is the brand new anime series！To make Battle Spirits even more exciting, the long waited Battle Spirits anime will return to TV screens! We have also released the PV of the new anime and we believe that you have felt the difference. In this storyline, new characters will begin an exciting adventure in the new world. Please look forward to more details!

Since the presentation, we were unable to give new information for Battle Spirits Shin Kaihou Project and we are terribly sorry for making battlers worry. We intend to explain more during the Bandai Card Games Next Plan event on 12th June. Please be sure to catch it.

Contract Saga will reach its climax this year. Following next year’s Eternal and Standard format, as well as the brand new anime series, this will be the changing point of Battle Spirits in history. Even though the details of the new formats are not released, the preparation work is proceeding steadily. We will give more updates in time to come. Please look forward to it.
