Rule updates for Ver. 12.0
of the Rule Manual
Regarding [Rebirth] Cards
Mirage effects can be set in the Burst Area from your hand face up by paying their Mirage Cost during your Main Step. They can't be set from the Removed Zone.
This allows one card with Mirage and one card with Burst to be set in the Burst area per turn. When setting 2 cards, the Mirage card is placed on top of the Burst card. Mirage effects are activated after being set. Mirage effects are treated as Spirit/Nexus/Magic effects based on card type, and can be prevented with abilities like Immunity.
Since Mirage cards are placed in the Burst Area, they aren't affected by effects that target Field cards, and even if they contain symbols, they can't be used to reduce their cost. They also can't be discarded at will.
If a Mirage is already set, setting a new Mirage will swap it with the old one.
For more details and rulings, please check the rules manual and Q&A.

Handling Simultaneous Activations
Players are simultaneously activating effects from hand more than before. As such, the order in which players declare effects in these circumstances has been clarified.
If it's your turn, start by having your opponent reveal all of the effects they intend to activate from their hand. Next, reveal all of the effects you intend to activate to your opponent. The player whose turn it is then decides the order of resolution for all effects, including simultaneous activations from the Field and Trash. The effects are then resolved in the determined order.

Other Changes to Rules and Wordings
Some effect rules and wordings are being changed. Reprinted cards in future sets will be updated to reflect the up-to-date rules and wordings.
- ・Effects that affect how symbols are counted and fixed, like "has 2 symbols" and "the symbols <...> are treated as 0" are being changed to read "fixed to 2 symbols" and "the symbols <...> are fixed to 0." As a result, if a card's symbols are changed to 2 by an effect but receive an extra symbol by another effect, the number will stay fixed at 2. This is to prevent confusion with costs and BP when symbol counts change. Rules aren't being changed. Instead, effects that change symbol count to a fixed value and effects that are treated as fixed values now directly change the number of symbols.
- ・Effects like [BS14-075 The Fortified City of Flame Dragon]'s "When <...> Spirits are destroyed" applied only when your cards were destroyed, but included effects like [BS53-TX02 The Purple World]'s "When opposing Spirits are depleted/destroyed" Rebirth condition. As such, some card rules will be modified to include opposing effects.
- ・Currently, declared Burst activations with [Ultimate Hand] can be activated even if the Ultimate with [Ultimate Hand] ends up not having enough levels or leaves the field before the Burst is resolved. This is being changed to line up with other rulings around effects that change Burst conditions -- if an Ultimate with [Ultimate Hand] doesn't have enough levels or leaves the field before the Burst is resolved, the Burst can no longer be activated, returning it to hand instead.
- ・For Burst conditions that read "after an opponent's Spirit attack," the current ruling is that if an opponent's attacking Spirit leaves the Field due to an effect etc., the Burst still activates. This is being changed to line up with other rulings -- if the attacking Spirit leaves the Field before the Burst resolves, it can no longer activate and the situation is undone.
- ・For Burst conditions that read "after an opponent's effect summons a Spirit/Brave", the current ruling is that if the opponent's summoned Spirit/Brave leaves the Field before the Burst finishes resolving, the Burst can still be activated. This is being changed to line up with other rulings -- if the summoned Spirit/Brave leaves the Field before the Burst resolves, the Burst can no longer be activated and the situation is undone.
*The following will not be displayed, but for other Burst conditions, - ・For effects like "After an opponent's life is decreased," and "After an opponent's cards in hand increase due to an opponent's effect," the rules only check to see if the action was performed. If a player loses life only to gain it back immediately afterwards, even if the total life is the same, the rules see that the opponent's life decreased. Likewise, if a player's cards in hand increase only to be discarded later, the total number of cards increased, allowing you to activate the Burst as always.
- ・For effects like "After Your Opponent activates a Spirit/Ultimate's (When Summoned) effect]," "After You or the Opponent used [Seal]," or "After an opposing Grand Skill resolves," the rules only check to see if the effect was activated. After the effect is activated, even if the Spirit that activated the effect leaves the Field before the Burst finishes resolving, you're still able to activate the Burst according to the rules, as always.

Regarding [Rebirth] Cards
[Rebirth] card, unlike normal single-faced cards, have effects printed on both sides of the card. When using [Rebirth] cards, opaque sleeves are required for all cards in the deck. Cost on the top left corner (Pre-Rebirth) should be clearly seen when sleeved. When the effect to flip the card activates, the [Rebirth] card should be taken out of the sleeve and flipped over before putting it back into the sleeve and the cost of on the top right corner (Post-Rebirth) should be seen. When the card leaves the Field or becomes a base card for <<Radiant Descent>>, the card returns to its Pre-Rebirth state.
If you do not wish to take out and re-insert the card from the sleeve during a match, you can use the checklist card instead.
For more information and ruling, please check the rulebook and Q&A.

Regarding the change of [Burst] placement area and rulings
Placement area for [Burst] is no longer treated as part of the Field and will be renamed as [Burst Area]. Thus, resolving a Burst effect, in Burst state, after activation will be in the said zone.
Due to this change of rule, burst in the [Burst Area] is unaffected by effects that target the Field, and will not be taken as reference for effects like [Heavy Armor: ∞]. In addition, in conjuncture with this change of ruling, [Your opponent cannot activate Burst effect] / [Opposing Burst effect(s) cannot be activated] will no longer target the Burst but will target the Player instead.
For more information and ruling, please check the rulebook and Q&A.

Regarding the resolution of [When depleted/destroyed], [Send back to Hand/Deck] effects
Regarding Spirit/Ultimate/Brave/Nexus that were summoned/deployed, at the current moment, stays in a “Destroyed State” when destroyed by effects or battle; stays in a “Depleted state” when the number of cores on the card is lesser than the cores required to maintain the lowest level; and [Send back to Hand/Opened Zone/Deck] and any other relevant effects which move the cards to another designated location will be in a new state called “Standby state” during the resolution of effects.
As such, when resolving [Send back to Hand/Deck] effects, [By returning to Hand/Deck] and [When leaving the Field] effects cannot be inserted in the resolution of effect. Similarly, for [When destroyed/depleted] effects, retaining effects are to be resolved first then to resolve [By returning to Hand/Deck] and [When leaving the Field] effects. To compliment the change of rules, when the card affected by effects like [Send back to Hand/Deck] is depleted due to paying of cost using the cores on the said card, it will still return to the Hand/Deck.
The new resolution sequence for [Send back to Hand/Deck] and [depleted/destroyed] effects will be as follow. Please note the difference as compared to before.
◆ Current resolution sequence for [Send back to Hand/Deck] and [destroyed/depleted]
・Activation of [Send back to Hand/Deck] effect → Insertion and resolving of [By returning to Hand/Deck] and [When leaving the Field] effects → If [Remain on Field] effect is absent, resolve the [Send back to Hand/Deck] effect and return said card to Hand/Deck.
・Activation of [destroy/deplete]→ Target card goes into [When deplete/destroyed] state→ Resolve [When destroy/deplete] effect→ Confirmation of depletion/destruction and resolve [When leaving the field] effect → If [remain on the field] effect is absent, target card will be moved to the trash.
◆ Changes to resolution sequence ( [Remain on the field effect] cannot be inserted into resolution of [Send back to Hand/Deck] effect )
・Activation of [Send back to Hand/Deck] effect and [deplete/destroy] effect → (Target card remains on the field in “Standby state”)→ Resolution of [When leaving the Field] / [By returning to Hand/Deck] / [When destroy/deplete] effects → If [Remain on the field] effect is absent, move target card to the designated location.
For more information and ruling, please check the rulebook and Q&A. Due to this ruling being a drastic change, there will be more time for players to understand the change. Hence, the new ruling will stand on May 1, 2020.

Regarding ruling change for switch effects
When using [Switch] effects to replace Spirit on the field, it will now not be treated as [Increase in hand size] effect. As such, you can still [switch] even after the opponent has [opponent cannot increase hand size], the opponent cannot activate [when opponent increase hand size] effects or burst with the condition of [after your opponent increase their hand size]. If the switched Spirit is a <<Radiant Descent>> Spirit with base cards, even though the hand count is increased, in actual fact, it will not be taken as an increase of hand size.
Also, regarding the new ruling of stay in “Standby state” for [Send back to hand] effects, [Switching] effect directly performs the switching action hence, the Spirit returning to hand will not be in “Standby State”.
To compliment this change of ruling, for cards with effect [This card/spirit, cannot return to hand/deck from the field/trash/opened zone by either players’ effects] like [Heat Steel Knight, Zenobios] and [The Dimension Destruction Demon Dragon, Lacta Veeja], the effect will be changed to [This card/spirit cannot be returned to hand/deck or switched from the field/trash/opened zone by either players’ effects]. The ruling of not being able to return to hand by switch effects does not change.
For more information and ruling, please check the rulebook and Q&A.

Regarding change in sequence for resolution of passive effects and active effects
When multiple effects are activated at the same time, the sequence for resolution is decided by the turn player. However, it will be changed to resolution of passive effects first, then the resolution of active effects.
1. Resolution of effects that does not state timing and turn/step passive effects.
2. Resolution of effects with designated timing like [When this spirit is summoned] or fulfilment of condition type of active effects, and effects that activates at start of step/timing.
※However, even if the Lv of a card is raised in the midst of an activation of an effect, resulting in a new continuous effect, as long as it does not interfere with the resolution of current effect, it will not be inserted into the current resolution of effect.

Regarding the change in other rulings
There will be a slight change in ruling and some of the wordings. For any reprinting of cards, they will be edited according to the new wording. Rulings will also use the new wording as the standards.
・Effects like [When this spirit battles] and [When this ultimate battles] will be replaced with [When this spirit attacks/blocks] and [When this ultimate attacks/blocks]. As such, cards from SD33 onwards will have their wordings changed to be as above.
・[Change] effect no longer includes [the battle continues if it were in a battle]. However, the ruling still does not change, when a spirit is in battle and [Change] or other switch effect is used, the battle will still proceed. This change of wordings has been used since products from March 2020 onwards.
・[Draw X number of cards from your deck. After that, discard Y cards from your hand] will be changed to [Draw X number of cards from your hand, then discard Y number from your hand]. (Even though there is no ruling change to this, if a player is unable to draw cards due to the interference of other effects, cards from the hand still needs to be discarded, to the best of their capabilities)
・Brave condition [Card containing the name (oo)] will be changed to just (oo), to be in line with condition for <<Radiant Descent>> and [Core Charge]. There will be no change to rulings.

- ・ If it is braved to a Spirit or Ultimate, the Saga Brave’s color, cost, BP+, symbol and [When braved with Spirit/Ultimate] effect(s) will be given to the braved Spirit/Ultimate. [When braved with Nexus] effect(s) will not be given.
- ・ If it is braved to a GranWalker Nexus, the Saga Brave’s color, cost, symbol and [When braved with Nexus] will be given to the braved GranWalker Nexus. [When braved with Spirit/Ultimate] effect(s) will not be given.
- ・ When a Saga Brave in Spirit form braves to a GranWalker Nexus, send all the core(s) on the Saga Brave to the Reserve first, then brave it together with the GranWalker Nexus.
- ・ When a Saga Brave separates from a GranWalker Nexus, all the cores remain on the GranWalker Nexus, you can send core(s) from your field or Reserve other than core(s) from your GranWalker Nexus to it and maintain it as a Spirit form.
- ・ When a Saga Brave is summoned and braved directly to a GranWalker Nexus, no core(s) from your Field or Reserve can be moved to that Saga Brave.
- ・ When a Saga Brave is direct braved to a GranWalker Nexus, it will be treated like the GranWalker Nexus and can only be targeted by effect(s) that specifically target GranWalker Nexus, [Destroy 1 opposing Brave] effects cannot destroy it and when you direct braved to a GranWalker Nexus and activate [When this Brave is summoned] effect(s), even if there is [[When this Brave is summoned] effect cannot be activated], you can activate it’s effect.
Regarding [GranForce]
[GranForce] is a new effect given to some GranWalker Nexus. GranWalker Nexus which activates it’s [GranForce], will be treated as both a GranWalker Nexus and Spirit at the same time. The following Rules applies to them.
- ・ During [GranForce], it will have BP and can attack or block.

- ・ During [GranForce], since GranWalker Nexus can only be affected by effect(s) which specifically target GranWalker(s), effect(s) which do not include GranWalker as a target like, [Refresh 1 of your Spirit] or [Destroy 1 opposing Spirit], [Destroy 1 opposing Brave], those effect which specifically target Spirit(s) or brave Braved cannot affect it.
- ・ Even during [GranForce], cores on it cannot be used to pay cost, when it leaves the field, all the cores are sent to the Void.
- ・ After activating [GranForce], and if can fulfill the condition for a normal Brave or Imagine Brave, it cannot be braved to any card except Saga Brave(s)
- ・ During [GranForce], since GranWalker cannot be destroyed except by another GranWalker, even if the opposing blocked Spirit has a higher BP that the GranWalker, that GranWalker will not be destroyed. If both [Gran Force] GranWalker Nexus battles, the GranWalker with the lower BP will be destroyed.
Regarding changes to GranWalker Nexus’s
<<Core Charge>> text and rule
Up till now <<Core Charge>> for GranWalker when you summon/descend is a compulsory effect. From here on GranWalker’s summon/descend <<Core Charge>> text will be change to [*When you summon/descend the listed Spirit, you can add 1 core from the Void to this Nexus.] so now it will be an optional effect to decide on, instead of a compulsory effect. Please treat GranWalker Nexus with Block Icon <5> with the same aboved ruling.
This change will take place from April 1st 2019 onwards.
This change will take place from April 1st 2019 onwards.
Regarding Changes to the Rule(s) for Brave
Up till now, for Braves that already braved, even if the condition is not fulfilled, it stays braved. From here on, if the condition is not fulfilled, it will be separated immediately, if it is unable to retain as a Spirit form, it will be send to the Trash. As more and more effect(s) like <<Radiant Descent>> or [Change] which allows you to transfer the Brave over, it will become harder to determine if the original target fulfilled the condition or not, so this is to prevent further complication.
Hence, if the condition can be fulfilled by the new Spirit, it will be treated as a braved Spirit.
This change will take place from April 1st 2019 onwards.

Regarding identification number for cards with same name
Since Collaboration Booster, in order to allow the same character name to have multiple card types and to be added 3 copies each in a deck, ID number has been added for cards with same name. For multiple card types with the same name, No. [2], [3] has been added to the back of the card name.
Outside of the game, It is treated as if the ID number is part of the card name, inside a deck, 3 copies each of the cards with different ID number can be added.
Those listed as Banned/Limited card, as long as the ID number is different, it is treated as a different card and not a Banned/Limited card.
However, in game, it is treated as card name without the ID numbering.
For example, from here on when the card name 「Agumon[2]」appears, due to it having different ID number, 3 copies of「Agumon」and 3 copies of「Agumon[2]」 can be added into the same deck . In game when using 「refresh all with the Card name: [Agumon]」effect, both of these cards can be refreshed.
However, prior to BLOCK ICON<4>,「Godzilla[1954]」and「Gozilla[1965]」numbering is not the ID number for same card name, it is not treated as the same card in game.

Regarding Ultimate
Until now, for effects that does not indicate Ultimate, according to the rules, Ultimate is not affected by it. Due to this, it resulted in many complications in game when it comes to resolving certain effects and direct brave effects. Hence, this rule has been abolished.
From now on, if it is not effects like【Heavy Armor】or unaffected by effects, card effect(s) that target the Field’s core, Ultimate will be included as one of the target as well.
Also, when Ultimate is braved with a Brave, if the braved Ultimate does not have any effects which is unaffected by the effect in action, the following effects for example:「[When this Braved is summoned] cannot be activated」 and 「[Destroy 1 opposing Brave]」 is now effective against Braved Ultimate(s).
However, due to 【Charge】 has already changed the texts of its effect, from now on it does not affect Ultimate’s effect as well.
These changes will be applied from April 21st, 2018 onwards.

Regarding「[During this Turn]」Effect(s)
Up till now, effects that state [During this turn] continue to be in effect even if the activating card loses the required level or is move elsewhere, with the exception of [When Braved], [Descension], etc. and nexus effects. Even if the effect stated [During this turn], if the Spirit or Nexus is destroyed or loses the required LV, that effect becomes invalid. Now, that exception is to be removed. So long as the effect states a duration such as [During this turn], [During this battle] etc, even if it is a [Descension] or nexus effect, that effect remains in play. Effects that do not specify a timing will become invalid if the activating card loses the required level or leaves the field etc.
These changes will be applied from April 21st, 2018 onwards.
These changes will be applied from April 21st, 2018 onwards.
Regarding 「BPを比べ(BP Comparison) 」Destroyed Effect
Usually, when there are multiple destroy related effects happening at the same time, the turn player decides the order of how it resolves. When the timing where destroyed Spirits are remained on field, or return to hand, the destroy related effect awaiting to resolve does not activate. However, with the exception of [When only opposing Spirit is destroyed by BP comparison]」effect, even if destroyed Spirit is not on field, as long as the condition where this effect can be activated is maintained, the effect can be resolved.
These changes will remove this exception, and the situation above will be resolved as per usual.
These changes will be applied from April 21st, 2018 onwards.

Card Text Changes
The description for a portion of existing effect will have some changes. The Revival cards from now on will be changed following this rule. The ruling will be executed according to the latest description as well.
- ・【When Braved】《When Sealed》 according to the description of 【Descension】, Hence【When Braved】will be changed to【During Braved】,《When Sealed》will be changed to《During Seal》. The ruling is not affected.
- ・「This Spirit is treated as colourless」will be changed to「This Spirit’s color and symbol is treated as colourless」. The ruling is not affected. As for the cards prior to BLOCK ICON<4>, even if it does not have the description of ‘symbol’, the ruling will be based on current description where the symbol is colorless and cannot be used for Cost reduction.
- ・「Your opponent cannot activate Burst」 will be changed to 「Opposing Burst cannot be activated」. As the player is not the The ruling is not affected.
- ・「loses it’s effect」 will be changed to 「effect cannot be activated」. Initially the intention of having different description for both effects is to highlight the colors’ feature, but currently the ruling has been standardized. Though the description may be different, 「loses it’s effect」 had a stronger impression and hence the description has been standardized. The ruling is not affected.

Timing to send cards to Trash
Up till now, when your Spirit/Ultimate/Brave/Nexus is depleted or destroyed, the timing to send the card to trash is split into 2 different categories.
①Immediately send it to the Trash (Brave that are destroyed, Spirit/Ultimate/Nexus that are depleted)
②After resolving all effects that are activated, then sending it to the Trash (Spirit/Ultimate/Nexus that are destroyed)
Above mentioned are the 2 different categories, but sometimes effect resolution makes it difficult to determine which category it falls into. Example: The effect resolution of [When this spirit is depleted/destroyed by your opponent] or the difference in timing when a Brave Spirit's Brave remains on the field, and resolution of a depletion or destroyed effect.
Henceforth, the timing for sending depleted or destroyed cards will now be combined into one.
When a Spirit/Ultimate/Brave/Nexus is depleted or destroyed, resolve all effects that are activated at the same time and also effects will be activated due to the first effect's activation, then send the cards to the trash.
In addition, Spirit that is depleted because it was used to pay for a cost for a summon or magic effect, will only be send to the trash after its effect is resolved.
